Unicorn

I made this on Sunday, but was an epic fail at uploadeing. I think it turned out pretty cute! Now I just have to figure out how to use my stupid camera...

Absence

I haven't posted in a while, so this is really just a reminder to myself that I need to keep up with posting my creative efforts!

Snow!

We got so much snow today! I think it was about a foot and a half. My brother shoveled the driveway by himself, so I decided to make him a special treat. Frosted brownies!

That whole chunk missing was his one slice! I accept full responsibilty for whatever weight he gains when he comes home from college. :)

Today I also made a lot more soup just to use up the last of the sour cream and squash. And I have a new project in mind for another day. Not tomorrow, though, because I'm going sledding! Weeee!!! ^^

Corn-tastic!

Yesterday's recipe required 3/4 cup sour cream, which meant I had 1 1/4 cups left in my fridge. Mission for today? Use it up!

Mom's Big Book of Baking is like the Bible to me. Whenever I'm bored or my mom comes home with some random food item that was on sale, I flip through the pages to find something to make. This book always has something delicious waiting on its pages!

Today I decided to go with an old standard: Sour Cream Corn Mufins.

They are super easy to make. 1 cup flour, 1 cup cornmeal, 2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 cup melted butter, 2 eggs and 1 cup sour cream. Mix it together, stick it in the oven at 375 for 25 minutes and...

All done! Don't they look delicious?

Time for work! Maybe I'll bring some along for my coworkers...that is, if I can sneak them past my brother! ^^

Butternut Squash and Cider

I got the New York Times Cookbook for Christmas, and this is the first time I've used it.

It's butternut squash soup made with a little extra something...apple cider!

With an english muffin, it made for the perfect lunch.^^

Marbling

Today I wanted to use nail polish for its true purpose...painting nails. I found out about this marbling technique late last night and couldn't wait to try it out!

I chose these colors because they match how I'm dressed today.

To get the marbled effect, you apply a base coat of the lightest color to your nails. Then, you add a drop of each color to a cup of water one inside the other to form rings. Once the rings are formed you run a pick through them in order to form a design, like below.

(sorry about the quality...my fingers were covered in vaseline and I couldn't mess with the settings)

Simply dip your nails into the water, pull away the surface polish with a tooth pick, and VOILE! You've created a cool design on your nails!

It's so easy, I may never painting my nails a solid color again!

Sick :(

I'm sick today which meant I spent all day in bed not crafting. But it also meant I didn't have to go to work and could watch Modern Family and Fruits Basket instead!

Frame

Finished :)

I painted the top and bottom the same color and then spotted them with dark pink flowerd. The sides looked bland after all that, so I decided to line them with some leftover seam binding

Isn't the picture the cutest? Too bad I never really dreamed of being any of those things...
Sorry the picture quality is so horrendous!

First Projects

Three days into 2011 I've already completed one project and begun another! Not that they are anything major...I had to work 10-6 on both the 1st and the 2nd, and I had to babysit from 7-11:30 last night, so free time has been limited. But, hey, creation is creation! :)
The first project was really simple. I have a bunch of jersey lying around from a dress I made in the fall, and I wanted to make something with it. So I made a bow!

To make it a little prettier I sewed some seam binding into it. It's not the most technically challenging or well-crafted thing, but it only took 20 minutes to make and is cute enough. ^^

The second project is still a work in progress, so no judgment, please! I've had this frame in my room for years, encasing an picture my uncle gave me when I was about 4 years old.

I didn'd photograph the adorable picture, but you can see how boring the wood frame is. After seeing Zeruda's decorated frame from a while back, I decided that now was the time to decorate mine!

Like I said, work in progress. I was too lazy to hunt through my mom's old art chest to find paints and brushes to use, so I'm just using nail polish. I like how you can still see the grain lines through the polish.

I have to work again today from 5-1, but I'll make sure to post the finished product once it's all done! xo

On Resolutions

Resolutions are silly. I mean, really, I've always felt that if you want to make a change you should commit to it at any point in the year. A fresh calendar isn't going to change your outlook on life all that much. But I'm starting to realize that, yeah, maybe a resolution isn't such a bad idea! I mean, if you're going to run a marathon you start at the beginning and go to the end, right? No one even starts running in the middle and then loops back around. That would be rather pointless. Forming a resolution at the start of the new year is a great way to track progress! So, you're wondering, in what way are you trying to progress? Well, I want to create! For the past few years I've been absorbing an overwhelming level of information from a variety of blogs: cooking, fashion, sewing, lolita, tumblrs...you name it, I've followed it! And I always admire the creativity of the people who run those blogs. I mean, I'm not an artistic abomination, but I'm not the next Martha Stewart either. I've made a few dresses, painted a few pictures, but nothing major. This year, though, I want to change! My goal is to complete 3 acts of creation each week. What is an act of creation? Well, anything! I can draw a picture, cook a meal, sew a skirt, make a necklace...whatever catches my fancy! I figure that with all the blogs I read I'm bound to find inspiration somewhere. Hopefully this blog will motivate me to keep up with my goal while also encouraging me to become more involved in the online communities I observe from a distance. In other words, I'm ready to make friends! Here's to the new year!
